The Role
We are looking for a highly technical Head of Business
Development to join a specialist technology organisation. This is not your
typical BD role, success here comes not from chasing KPIs, but from the ability
to engage deeply with customers on technical terms, often down to product
and code-level discussions.
You will be the bridge between commercial opportunity and
technical reality, guiding customers through long and complex buying cycles (12
weeks to 3 years). With a strong engineering background, you’ll be ready to
handle tough technical questions from potential customers, building trust and
credibility through your expertise.
This is a senior leadership position with the potential to
progress into wider management responsibilities, while making an immediate
impact on how opportunities are identified, qualified, and delivered.
Key Responsibilities
- Act
as the technical face of business development, capable of engaging
with customers at product and code level.
- Qualify
inbound opportunities and build trusted technical relationships with key
accounts.
- Collaborate
closely with Sales, Delivery, Technical, Finance, and Marketing teams to
shape solutions.
- Manage
complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities from initial engagement through
to delivery.
- Translate
technical capabilities into clear value for customers, aligning solutions
with system-level requirements.
- Influence
market development by engaging with end-user communities and representing
the company at industry events.
- Provide
critical technical and market feedback to refine internal processes,
tools, and product positioning.
- Maintain
accurate reporting of pipeline activity within CRM systems.
Skills & Experience
- Strong
engineering/technical background, with the ability to speak the
language of developers and system engineers.
- Proven
business development or customer-facing technical experience, ideally in a
software or systems-led environment.
- Ability
to explain, defend, and demonstrate products from a code perspective.
- Track
record of building trusted technical relationships and managing long,
complex sales cycles.
- Confident
communicator, able to handle difficult technical questions with authority.
- Experience
with large organisations and multi-stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of defence, communications, or secure systems is a plus, but not essential.
Why Apply?
This is a unique opportunity to join a technology-led
commercial team, where success is built on technical depth and
credibility, not just numbers. You’ll be trusted to lead customer
conversations that get into the real details of how products work, shaping
opportunities that make a genuine impact.
If you’re an engineer at heart who thrives on solving
problems, enjoys building technical trust, and wants to work in a global-facing
role where travel, autonomy, and influence come as standard, this role offers
the chance to do all of that while shaping the future of business development
for the organisation.
Apply today for immediate consideration.
